MacBook Air 15”: Bigger is Better(?)
From the thumbnail itself, it is pretty obvious that this blog is all about the 15-inch MacBook Air. But before diving into any of it, let’s talk about Tesla first. It’s been all around the news that within next year, Tesla will be launching their electric vehicles in India. Being in a sophisticated economy like ours, it is very likely that Tesla will be first launching the Model 3, their entry-level, attainable offering for the masses, so that people can form their first Tesla experience. But as soon as they notice a growth in their sales they would be selling out the Model Y. The Model Y can be described as a blown-up Model 3 with greater ground clearance and some additional features which would solidify the Tesla experience then-after. And as a country which demands larger vehicles, the Model Y will likely be a grand hit.
And in my opinion, the 15-inch MacBook Air will be the same thing as the Model Y for Apple. Not getting my point? Let’s get straight into it…
This bigger MacBook Air is making too much sense! It’s the same as the previously excellent 13-inch M2 MacBook Air but bigger. All Apple has done to it is increase its size & it has done wonders for the product, because previously, when someone wanted to buy a larger MacBook then Apple had to offer those customers the 16-inch MacBook Pro which starts at $2,499. For some, the $1,399 price premium for the screen upgrade was completely worthless and for some the power that the laptop offered was simply an overkill. Due to all of it, this larger MacBook Air which starts at $1,299 has simply provided the perfect middle ground to exist in Apple’s Mac lineup.
Talking about build quality, the 15-inch MacBook Air is built like a tank like all Apple laptops, and its aluminium unibody design is affirmingly sturdy which can’t be said about other 15-inch options in the market which weigh more than 2 kgs. Also, I have to mention that this laptop is so incredibly thin that it’s like a featherweight. If you’re someone who requires to carry your laptop all the time, then this one will prove itself to be a great one but if you’re one of those who wants to carry a smaller backpack then the 13-inch model would be the way to go. But the part which remained the same as the 13-inch model is its battery life. Though it has a larger cell than the smaller one, the larger screen compensates for it thus providing equivalent results with the 13-inch model. And while I mention it, this screen is exactly the same as the 13-inch model in terms of quality, brightness and viewing angles, but has the upper edge of showing more content at a time. This is also, the exact reason why people are so crazy about it.
But coming to the parts which got me excited are its speakers and the slightly better performance. As an audiophile, I do have an inclination towards sound with a flat sound signature, which is extremely hard to achieve sometimes when you are on the get-go and don’t have the proper equipment with you. And this is where I adore Apple’s sound profile for their speakers. Not only they are loud without any distortion at higher volumes, the additional two force-cancelling woofers making it a total of four for the 15-inch model provides excellent bass, sub-bass and instrument separation without making the sound too boomy.
Lastly, talking about the performance, Marques Brownlee in his review, said that it has a slightly better performance envelope than the 13-inch model, but in my opinion that performance overhead is great for people who are not at the pinnacle of their profession yet but do carry out longer workloads sometimes as it overcomes the problem of sustained workloads on the smaller machine.
This is it! This is the MacBook people have been waiting for and it thus proves “Bigger is Better”.
